On the first drive of the game Central Catholic got the ball. They started at their own 30 yard line. They marched down the field and eventually scored when Dom Pieto connected with Gavin Thompson for a 5 yard touchdown. The drive was 12 plays and took up nearly 8 minutes of the first quarter. Little did Central Catholic know that would be enough to win the game.
Bethel Park went three and out on its first drive and they lined up to punt. But Central Catholic got a great opportunity when Bethel Park went to punt the punters knee hit the ground giving Central Catholic the ball at the Bethel Park 13 yard line. Luckily for Bethel Park the defense stood strong and Central Catholic went for a field goal which was no good. The score at the end of 1 was 7-0 Central Catholic.
Bethel Park really struggled on offense for most of the second half. They didn’t get a first down until 5 minutes remained in the second quarter. Late in the quarter Bethel Park got on the board with a 31 yard field goal by John Gummo with 3:26 remaining in the first half. Central Catholic was putting together a good long drive toward the end of the half. They were inside the Bethel Park 30 yard line. But after several incomplete passes the drive stalled and resulted in zero points. The score at half was 7-3 Central Catholic.
The second half was certainly an interesting half. It was a half that was dominated not by Central Catholic nor Bethel Park. The half was dominated by mother nature, as it was a torrential downpour the rest of the game. Bethel Park got the ball to start the second half but went three and out. Central Catholic struggled on its first drive also. Then mother nature striked on the punt when the snap was mishandled by the punter. Bethel Park started the drive at the Central Catholic 17 yard line. They couldn’t do anything with ball. However they tried another field and it was successful and Gummo had his second field goal of the game and his team was now only down by 1.

Central Catholic got the ball back again and after 2 plays the ball was fumbled and Bethel Park had all the momentum and started at the Central Catholic 33 yard line. But Central Catholic’s defense stood tall and Bethel Park got no points. The rest of the game was more of the same. Bethel Park got close to scoring twice later on in the fourth quarter. one drive they were on the Central Catholic 31 yard line the next play they fumbled. After that they got the three and out they needed and got the ball at their own 41 yard line. They marched down the field and were inside the Central Catholic 24 yard line. The rest of that drive Central Catholic didn’t allow anymore yards. They lined up to kick a 42 yard field goal which fell just short and that ended the game.
Eddy Tillman had 91 yards on 26 carries for Central Catholic. Luke Suruis finished with 55 yards on 16 carries for Bethel Park. And of course Dom Pieto and Gavin Thompson had the game winning touchdown pass. Next week Central Catholic has a huge showdown against defending state champions Pine Richland.
