In a battle of unbeatens, thisĀ  was the first time that OLSH and Jeannette have ever played each other. “One of the things I said to the guys I quoted a saying from Remember the Titans, this is the first time they ever played us, let’s leave an everlasting memory remember the first time you played the Jeannette Jayhawks” Coach Hall said.

OLSH went 3 and out to start the game and punted it away to Jeannette. They had decent field position starting at the 43. They drove down the field and eventually scored when Seth Howard connected with Zach Berginc for a 3 yard touchdown. The extra point failed though making the score 6-0.

Later in the quarter, OLSH had the ball and the ball ended up being intercepted and returned by Marcus Barnes 57 yards for a touchdown. A two point conversion failed which made it 12-0 Jeannette.

On the next drive OLSH got a must needed answer and they got right back in it when Tyler Bradley connected with Austin Wigley for a 30 yard touchdown. That made it 12-6 midway through the first quarter. That would be the score at the end of the first.

In the second quarter OLSH was driving with the ball. On one play Bradley throws it downfield and it ends up being intercepted and taken 85 yards to the house by Jackson Pruitt. That made the score 20-6 at half. Going into this game Tyler Bradley had thrown 2 interceptions. In this game he threw 5. 2 of which were returned for a touchdown. “I’m proud of our guys they played defensively I don’t know how well or whatever, but the quarterback did tell me boy you guys swarmed me” said Coach Hall.

To start the third quarter Jeannette went 3 and out. OLSH got it and capitalized on great field position. Tyler Bradley found Sig Saftner for a 22 yard touchdown and now OLSH was within 7, with the score 20-13.

Later that quarter a very crucial point in the game occurred. OLSH had it at the Jeannette 27. They were inside the 10 and eventually got to the 1 yard line two runs got them there. On third down they were stuffed. They decided to run it in again but that was also stopped. “That goal line stand was BIG that could’ve been a turning point, they score right there, they’re back in the game” Coach Hall said.

The thing that basically decided this game was that Jeannette drive that started on their own 1 yard line. They drove 99 yards in 6 plays for a touchdown. It was capped off by a 42 yard run by Seth Howard making it 28-13 with 44 seconds left in third quarter. “It’s huge, I thought that broke their backs, I mean you see them with their heads down” said Coach Hall.

Going back to what Coach Hall said about, “Remember the Jeannette Jayhawks, leave an everlasting memory.” I’m sure OLSH will remember that turning point in the third quarter. 28-13 ended up being the final score.

Aside from the interceptions, Tyler Bradley had a good game going 21 of 44 for 287 yards and 2 touchdowns. Seth Howard had 1 running touchdown and a passing one for Jeannette.

Next week Jeannette hosts rival Greensburg Central Catholic and OLSH travels to Jefferson Morgan.
