Penn Hills beats McKeesport 34-7, advances to Semifinals

This game was full of turnovers and penalties and 2 turnovers set the tone early in the game. McKeesport got the ball to start the game and on third down a ball was intercepted by Dante Cephas. After a first down to the 26, Penn Hills would get on the board with a pass from Hollis Mathis to Dante Cephas which made it 6-0 with 9:44 in the first quarter.

17 seconds later when McKeesport had the ball, Konota Gaskins fumbled on the carry and Aakeem Snell picked it up and scored a 37 yard touchdown. “There were a ton of turnovers in this game, and we capitalized on some of them” said Coach LeDonne. The score at the end of 1 was 12-0 Penn Hills.

McKeesport had its chances to get within one score but they weren’t able to get on the board. They specifically had 2 drives in Penn Hills territory and both of those drives ended in turnovers. “Anytime you get off the field not giving up a touchdown we’re pretty happy with that” said Coach LeDonne.

Penn Hills got on the board one more time before half and that score was also off a McKeesport fumble. Hollis Mathis connected with Dante Cephas for another 26 yard touchdown. That made the score 20-0 at the half. McKeesport had 7 drives in the first half, 5 of which ended in turnovers.

The third quarter featured more turnovers by both teams. On one drive again McKeesport was inside the Penn Hills 25 and that drive ended in a turnover. Penn Hills added another touchdown in third quarter and it was again a pass by Mathis to Cephas. Both had big nights obviously. Mathis was 6 of 15 for 86 yards. Cephas had 69 yards on 3 catches.

In the fourth quarter McKeesport finally got on the board when a ball was intercepted by Devari Robinson and returned for a 65 yard touchdown.

Penn Hills added one last touchdown before the game ended. It was an eight yard run by Tank Smith. He also had a big night, he rushed for 218 yards on 24 carries.

Penn Hills advances to the Semifinals to play Peters Township next Friday. The location for this game is to be determined.
