The Lions of United have a new Head Coach. After spending the last 5 years as an assistant at Forest Hills, Kevin Marabito brings his years of experience and success to a team that has just 1 win in its last 40 tries. “I’m no rookie, that’s for sure. I’ve been a head coach for 14 years, but I’ve been coaching for a long time in one fashion or another.” Marabito has a record of 74-63 as a head coach but don’t let those losses deceive you. He’s earned them turning teams around.
Marabito isn’t afraid of United’s recent lack of success. “They have great tradition here, we just need to take it one game at a time. Get a win, that’s the goal. We want to get the players excited about just playing football.”
Marabito wanted one more challenge. “I’d really like to see if I can turn this thing around. I came here for one last challenge before I get out of coaching. That’s not saying I’m ready to leave the game, I could be here for quite a while. But this place fits me, it’s 5 minutes from home and it’s a great community.” He’s no stranger to making a team successful. As a Head Coach, Kevin has 2 district 6 titles to his credit. He won them with Ferndale in 1995 and Johnstown in 2009.
United Athletic Director Cullen Stokes thinks they’ve pegged their man. “We’re very excited to have Kevin on board. I really respect what he’s done in the past. We think he’s the right man for the job. It’s be nice if we can get titles but at the end of the day you just want the players to turn into productive citizens and he’s done that in the past so we’re confident he can do that here.”
Marabito said he met with the players briefly on Thursday and thinks he’s got a great bunch of kids. He’ll decide on his staff after talking with the current assistants and talking to some other coaches he’s worked with in the past.
