Erie Royals “slay” the Lakeside Dragons

Written by: on Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

The Erie Royals continue to steamroll through opponents after losing to McDowell two weeks ago. After thrashing Brashear last Thursday 62-9, the Royals traveled to Ashtabula, OH to take on the Lakeside High School who entered the game with a 4-4 mark.

The Royals kicked off to start the game and immediately went to work defensively. Blitzing 6 defenders was to much for the Dragons to handle and Erie sacked Lakesides QB on three consecutive plays to force a punt.

JaGannon Williams, one of Erie’s “Four Horsemen” backfield, took a counter 35 yards down to Lakesides six yard line. The next play he took a sweep around the left side for a touchdown.

The Erie defense swarmed again forcing a punt within five plays. Danny Blue scampered 31 yards down the left sideline to help set up another touchdown run for JaGannon Williams.

Things were looking up for the home team  on their next possession. The Dragons faced a third and five from their forty yard line. Lakeside QB Spencer Loftus rolled right and found Antonio Harris who broke free and burst into the end zone for a 60 yard touchdown catch. After missing the PAT, the Erie lead was cut to 14 to 6.

The Royals didn’t need long to respond. The Royals quickly drove into Lakeside territory. Danny Blue was given the handoff on an end-around play and stepped back and threw a strike to wide-receiver Caleb Houston. Houston has had a breakout season for Erie, hauling in 8 passes for 252 yards and six touchdowns.

Erie got the ball with not a lot of time left int he second quarter but was still able to march down the field for six. Quarterback Jason Williams dropped back and threw a picture perfect pass down the left sideline to connect with junior Darius Williams. The gain of 60 helped set up Tony Fosters 20 yard touchdown run a few plays later.

JaGannon Williams broke a 57 yard touchdown to cap off Erie’s final score of the evening. His three scores tonight bump his season touchdown total to 10.

Erie amassed 506 yards of total offense with 365 of those yards coming on the ground. JaGannon Williams led all rushers with 136 yards on 9 carries. Danny Blue (64 yards), Jason Williams (50 yards) and Tony Foster (51 yards) also contributed to the ground game.

Jason Williams also completed three of seven passes for 107 yards. He has 571 yards and 10 touchdowns nine games through his senior season.

Erie’s defense was led by a pair of seniors, Keshawn Goudy and Jamar Hudson. Goudy had 7 tackles and 3 sacks while Hudson had 3 sacks. Four other defenders for the Royals had sacks, giving Erie 10 on the night.

The Royals will take on West Toronto Prep in their final game of the regular season Saturday at 12:00 PM.

Lakeside travels to Youngstown to take on Boardman High School.
