Who are some of the top running backs going into the 2011 season? Here’s our list of the top three running backs in Western PA. Who do you think makes the top five list?
1. Rushel Shell, Hopewell
Shell is, without a doubt, one of the most dynamic athletes to ever come out of the WPIAL. He ran for 2,510 yards and 27 touchdowns as a junior and has 6,766 yards and 76 rushing touchdowns in his career. Shell is a 5-star prospect in the nation’s 2012 recruiting class and has more than two dozen D-1 offers to his credit.
2. Julian Durden, Montour
Durden ran for 2,033 yards and 25 touchdowns for the WPIAL AAA finalist Spartans in his junior season. He smoothly made the transition to Class AAA play from Class A, having played at Pittsburgh North Catholic as a sophomore. In the last two years, Durden has run for more than 2,980 yards and scored 40 rushing touchdowns.
3. Kevin Hart, Seton-LaSalle
Hart may be one of the most dynamic running backs in the WPIAL’s AA classification. Hart was the feature back for a Rebels’ team that reached the WPIAL AA quarterfinals and finished 9-2 overall. In S-L’s nine regular season games, Hart ran for 1,335 yards and 21 touchdowns. Including the playoffs, Hart scored 30 total touchdowns for the green and gold.
