The Game: Chartiers Valley (7 AAA) @ Thomas Jefferson (7 AAA)
Date: Friday, October 10, 2008, from Jefferson Hills, PA
2008 Record: Chartiers Valley (5-1), Thomas Jefferson (5-1)
Pittsburgh Sports Weekly is set for the stretch run of the WPIAL regular season, as games will get a lot more intrusting and teams will have more pressure to win games as playoff spots start to fill up.
Yet again Pittsburgh Sports Weekly will have one of the top match-up this week, as the Chartiers Valley Colts (4-0 – 5-1) will take the trip to Jefferson Hills to meet the defending state champs in the Jaguars of Thomas Jefferson (3-0 – 5-1).
For the Colts, they know a win Friday night should lock up the conference title and a first round home game as coming into the game in Jefferson Hills they already have a playoff birth as the Colts will ride in for there sixth straight trip to the playoffs for Chris Saluga’s Colts.
After a 21-14 loss to West Allegheny (5-1) in week one, the Colts have knocked off five strait wins and shutting out 3 strait teams in consecutive weeks, only giving up 19 wile the Colts offense has scored 158 in the last five weeks.
Last week the Colts faced there toughest test this season, in 17-16 overtime, over Ringgold after they missed an extra point and the Colts took advantage after an 18 yard touchdown pass from Brian Rodavich to Beau Carson tied the game. Joe Pacella hit the extra point to another “W” in the Colts win Colum.
After the win over the Rams, the Colts are doing there best Pittsburgh Steeler impression as both Quarterback, Santino Coury and leading rusher Jim Riley fell to injuries. Both are questionable going in to the Friday night showdown in Jefferson Hills.
Thomas Jefferson comes into the game with a five game winning streak them selves, after a tough 34-13 loss in Wheeling, West Virginia in week one to Ted Ginn Sr. Cleveland Glenville squad. TJ- to most means Thomas Jefferson, but for the last five teams it has stood for Triple-A Juggernaut, out scoring them 207-21.
The latest left in the Jags wake is Elizabeth Forward (3-3), who have turned there program around since their 0-10 season of a year ago, showed that they aren’t TJ good just yet in a 35-0 loss.
Junior, quarterback Tyler Wehner is back at the helm, for the Jags this season and is doing well going 54 of 92 and passing for 1,033 yards with 13 touchdowns.
Let’s not for get about running back Brian Baldrige who is back for his senior season after missing last season due to injury. This year Baldrige has run for 347 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Last year’s game came down to the very end as Thomas Jefferson won it 3-0 on a field goal with 12 seconds left on the clock. Both teams combined for only 69 yards of total offense. As Chartiers Valley brings in the best defense in triple-A, and the Jaguars bring in a good team overall, I don’t think this game will be kept into single digits but for Chartiers Valley sake they need that to be the case.
The voice of Pittsburgh Sports Weekly, Matt Farago will have the call of the game as Matt covers his 50th high school football game in his young career. Joining Matt for the week 7 high school football game of the week will be Bryan Waldorf.
It’s the thrills and chills of Jefferson Hills and you can listen to all the action at www.pittsburghsportsweekly.homestead.com , pre-game starts at 7:00pm.
