2017 Class 1A Preseason Rankings

There is no surprise here at number 1. The Marauders are looking for their fourth straight 1A title. They lost some skill but return some key players on the line and at receiver. Coming in at #2 is of course the Clairton Bears. Last years state title runners up return nearly their entire team in 2017 but must find someone to fill the gap left by PSU DB Lamont Wade and Noah Hamlin. With 9 offensive players and 8 defensive player returning, Clairton is primed for another run at Hershey. Farrell has a strong team with Kyi Wright leading the way. They will be a tough out for anyone in District 10. Jeaneatte looks like the team that will challenge the Bears for the WPIAL 1A crown. Robert Kennedy and Marcus Barnes will be a tough connection to stop. Homer Center rounds out our top five. The Wildcats return 4 of 5 on the O line to make room for FB Jesse Lee and 8 players from a defense that was very good at the end of the 2017 season .

1A Rankings
Bishop Guilfoyle ( 6) 0-0
Clairton ( 7) 0-0
Farrell (10) 0-0
Jeaneatte ( 7) 0-0
 5  Homer Center ( 6) 0-0
Cambridge Springs (10) 0-0
Imani Christian ( 7) 0-0
Purchase Line ( 9) 0-0
Ridgway ( 9) 0-0
Rochester ( 7) 0-0

2017 Class 2A Preseason Rankings

Our 2A Rankings also pick up where they left off, with Steel Valley at #1. The Ironmen lost DeWayne Murray and Paris Ford (Pitt) but Najhier West will fill in nicely at RB while there are a host of upcoming players to help shore up the defense that gave up just 8 points per game.

Wilmington comes in at #2. They have to replace QB Reece Bender and all everything Spencer Demedal but with 6 players returning on both sides of the ball and last years backups earning valuable playing time we think the Greyhounds can make it back to the semifinals.

Ligonier Valley is in the same situation at #3. They lost one of the best quarterbacks in that state in Collin Smith along with defensive player of the year Elijah Parrish. They’re at #3 only because we feel it might take the Rams a little while to get their new QB up to speed. Wide receivers Daugherty and Tutino along with 4 returning linemen should have them up to speed quickly.

The #4 Chestnut Ridge Lions will make a strong run in the post season. Their three headed monster of Logan Hauck, Noah Dillow and Phillip Dull will anchor a team that returns all 11 defenders and 9 on offense.

The Kane Wolves round out the top 5. They will miss Keaton Rounsville and Toby Fox on the line along with WR David Gardner but with QB Reed Williams and RB Erik Delong back behind a veteran line the Wolves should once again be a powerhouse.

2A Rankings
1 Steel Valley ( 7) 0-0
2 Wilmington (10) 0-0
3 Ligonier Valley ( 6) 0-0
4 Chestnut Ridge ( 5) 0-0
5 Kane (9) 0-0
Berlin ( 5) 0-0
Clarion ( 9) 0-0
Cardinal Wuerl NC ( 7) 0-0
Mt Union ( 6) 0-0
Washington ( 7) 0-0
