Archer Mills and Sam Minich had a great nights, on Friday (September 21st), leading the visiting Bobcats to a 42-0 win against St. Marys at Dutch Country Stadium. Mills had a hand in each of the Bobcats’ points, throwing four touchdown, all to Minich, running for two more scores and going six-for-six on extra point attempts.

The game started an hour early, being moved up due to weather concerns. And the inclement weather held off throughout the game.

Mills hooked up with Minich, who took the ball down the right side, for a fifty-five yard touchdown at 8:09 of the first quarter. Mills’ kick made the score 7-0.

With 1:15 left in the stanza, Mills scored on a keeper around left end and with the PAT, the Cats’ lead moved to 14-0.

Clarion would score three more times in the second quarter.

After Minich blocked a Dutch punt, Drew Whren recovered at the St. Marys thirty-one yard line. On the very next play, Mills and Minich hooked up for another touchdown. The extra point again was good, putting the score at 21-0, with 11:47 to go in the half.

The Bobcats scored again at 9:21. After receiving a punt and setting up just outside of midfield, Mills took of on a keeper, on the first play from scrimmage, going down the right side of the line for a fifty-one yard touchdown run. Mills kicked the extra point. The Cats now led 28-0.

The Bobcats would ensure that there would be a running clock, for the second half, when Mills hit Minich for a six yard touchdown over the middle, in the Back of the endzone. And with the kick, the Cats led 35-0.

Clarion would close out the scoring when Mills and Minich hooked up for another six yard strike at 4:49 of the third and with the kick the final was set at 42-0.

The Bobcats are now 5-0 and tied with Ridgway/Johnsonburg at the top of the District Nine League Large School Division.

The reserves for both teams saw considerable action, the rest of the game.

The offensive line did a fine job on the night, driving hard off the ball and moving their opponents, as could be seen a number of times on runs up the middle.  Sam and Logan Minich and Cutter and Camden Boggess had solid nights running the ball. And the defense did their usual, stellar job, as attested to by the shutout. They held the Dutch offense in check throughout the game.

Mills was 11-for-13 passing, for 206 yards. He also ran for 64 yards. Sam Minich had 169 receiving yards. Logan Minich ran the ball for 53 yards on 13 carries.

CAT QUOTES

Archer Mills

All together as a team, we put the little things together that we have been working on since the start of the season.

Sam Minich

Overall we played pretty well as a whole, we really got our passing game going tonight and that makes us a tough team to defend against. Also, we did a better job this week defensively in the second half than we have in the past few games and that’s a good sign for us moving forward.

Camden Boggess

On defense, we put together all the little things and came out hard from the start. We have been letting up in the second half and we made sure that didn’t happen tonight. It was a change in our mindset and we look to keep it rolling

Coach Wiser

Archer made good decisions throwing and running the ball.  The line opened up some good holes for our backs.  The Minich’s and Boggess’ ran and blocked well.

Defensively, we played a smothering defense allowing only a few first downs.  We forced them to pass more and that wasn’t their game.

Mills made all extra points and had some deep kickoffs. Overall I believe we played our best game to this point. Offensively we had great balance between pass and run. The punt return team set up a score with a block and Cutter Boggess added some good punt returns. Overall great TEAM effort.

The Bobcats will host the Kane Wolves on Friday (September 28th), for Homecoming at Memorial Stadium.

(Thanks for Kenn Nellis for spotting for me and to Cindy Nellis for player stats. GREAT JOB, BOBCATS!!!! LET’S KEEP IT GOING WITH A HOMECOMING WIN!!!!)
