Heading into Friday night’s game, the Bellefonte Red Raiders are working hard to keep their undefeated streak. The team is coming off a 55-7 win over Philipsburg-Osceola, putting their overall record at 3-0 and ranking as the 4th best AAAA team in the WPA rankings and 9th in the state according to PAFootballNews. This weekend, Bellefonte takes on Central Mountain High School at Central Mountain.
Senior and team quarterback Kyle Myers keeps the team focused, and makes sure the hard working mentality is kept throughout each practice.
“We prepare the same every week,” Myers said. “There’s never a time that we’re not ready for a game.”
The team continues to practice daily, conditioning and practicing plays to stay ready. Both the defensive and offensive lines work on skills and strategies specific to their positions needed to strengthen their performance.
The offensive players will continue to provide strong running plays since this strategy has proved to be effective in previous games.
Junior and running back C.J. Funk believes the team’s offensive lines are more than capable of putting in the effort needed to win Friday night’s game.
“If we can mix in both our speed and power, we will put together something beautiful,” Funk said.
Funk believes the team may be challenged by Central Mountain’s line this weekend.
“They have some big kids that our line is plenty capable of moving, but we need to do so on a consistent basis. We have to utilize our speed to our fullest potential,” Funk said.
The defensive lines of the team also practice efficiently during the week, as the boys are training each day to improve between games.
“We constantly practice our stunts and our hand placements everyday. It transfers straight into the games every Friday night,” Senior and defensive end Caleb Rockey said.
Rockey feels that the team’s defense holds skills that sets them apart from their opponents.
“We just work harder and play faster than a lot of the teams we play. We are always hungry on defense and never back down from anyone.”
Head Coach Shanon Manning and the rest of the staff dedicate their time to make sure the team is ready for each week of the season. Practices are filled with team discussions and strategizing to ensure every player is at his full potential for each game.
“We continue to stress about not turning the football over, but also just making the game we are playing that week the most important game,” said Coach Manning.
Coach Manning believes that Friday’s game will be a well played game from both teams.
“Their defensive is extremely big, they’re fast, they’re physical, they get to the ball well, I think they match up very well with us.”
The team is devoting time and effort to prepare for Friday night’s game. The game will be played at Central Mountain High School in Mill Hall, PA at 7 p.m.
