Bellefonte Red Raiders Roll Past Philipsburg Osceola

The Bellefonte Red Raiders and Philipsburg Osceola Mounties faced off Friday night at Lock Haven University. The Mounties couldn’t find a way to stop Bellefonte’s heavy run game. CJ Funk led the attack for the Raiders, in which he ran for a total of 158 yards for three touchdowns. While the mounties struggled to gain yards. To start the game the Mounties received the kick but ultimately couldn’t find a rhythm, they were pinned deep inside their own 30 and on third down, a sack by Bellefonte’s Colton Burd with 11:06 to go in the first quarter forced a Mountie punt. On Bellefonte’s first possession they drove right down the field and quarterback #3 Kyle Myers threw to #42 Noah Badger for the Red Raiders touchdown. The extra point was good by kicker #82 Chris Persiko. This made it 7-0 with 9:26 left in the first quarter. The next two Mountie drives are held up by back to back third down sacks by Bellefonte’s Caleb Rockey. This resulted in two touchdowns by the Raiders. First was a pass from #3 Kyle Myers to #11 Nick Catalano to make the score 13-0 with 3:51 left to go in the first. The extra point by Chris Persiko made it 14-0 Raiders. The second touchdown came with 1:35 left in the first when CJ Funk ran for the 11-yard touchdown to make it 20-0 Bellefonte, the extra point was good by Persiko to make it 21-0 Bellefonte. The end of the first quarter still saw the Mounties without points.
The start of the second quarter was just like the end of the first. The Red Raiders defensive line got to the Mounties quarterback resulting in a punt. With 11:24 left in the second quarter CJ Funk takes the ball from 1 yard out for the Bellefonte touchdown to make the score 27-0, the extra point was good making it 28-0 Bellefonte. At this point in the game, the Mounties started to find a little bit of a rhythm. #11 Landon McDonald was finding holes and helping his team drive down the field. However, the drive ended up stalling forcing a punt. Bellefonte took advantage and drove down the field for #5 Trae Bauman to rush into the end zone from 3 yards out making it 34-0 with 7:43 left in the second quarter, the extra point was good by Persiko again to make it 35-0. The following drive the Mounties finally found the spark they have been looking for the whole time. They drove down the field and with 3:55 left to go in the half the Mounties quarterback # 16 Ryan Whitehead connected with #7 TJ Thompson for the Philipsburg Osceola touchdown, the extra point was good by # 51 Aaron Parks making it 35-7. This was the score heading into halftime.
The second half was back and forth between the two teams but only resulted with Bellefonte scoring. It started with CJ Funk taking the ball right up the middle for a 27-yard touchdown, the extra point was good making the score 42-7. Later in the third quarter, Bellefonte was in the red zone and handed the ball to CJ Funk. He ran up the middle got hit and ended up fumbling into the end zone, it was recovered by Bellefonte’s #54 JD Besch, pat good. This put the Red Raiders up 48-7. The Mounties had a strong passing performance in the third and early fourth quarter, but they were unable to find the end zone for the rest of the game. Bellefonte drove down late in the fourth quarter overcoming two fourth down and shorts. When # 3 Kyle Myers found # 42 Noah Badger for their second touchdown connection of the night. The pat was good and this made the score 55-7 with 6:03 left in the game. This turned out to be the final score of the game as Philipsburg Osceola didn’t have an answer.
