Big School Team # 4 Pittsburgh Central Catholic (4) 0-0

Written by: on Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Central Catholic lost a boatload of talent from consecutive 11-1, WPIAL AAAA semifinalist teams which boasted Toledo recruit Damion Jones-Moore, Maryland recruits Perry Hills and Anthony Nixon and Bowling Green recruit Logan Dietz. But, with seven season of 10+ victories since 2003, the Vikings are becoming a traditional mainstay in ranking sets. RBs Luigi Lista-Brinza, the team’s second-leading rusher, and Niko Thrope, Shaler’s featured running back in 2011, are both juniors.

Quarterback J.J. Consentino, a transfer from Kiski Area, has battled for the quarterback job and lineman Angelo Natter, a two-way presence formerly for Thomas Jefferson, also found his way into the Vikings’ fold. Linebacker Leo Loughery, Central Catholic’s leading returning tackler, is back to spearhead a stingy unit which allowed an average of less than 10 points per game before Upper St. Clair scored 28 in an upset victory last November. Kicker Mitchell Maczura, a sophomore, converted 51 PATs and five FGs last season.
