CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Bison rolled over the Central Mountain Wildcats 35-14 Friday night at the Clearfield High School Sports Complex. Using a punishing, clock controlling ground game, the Bison had little trouble overcoming an opening Wildcat scoring drive to remain undefeated (5-0) on the season.
Junior quarterback Christian Lezzer led the Clearfield running attack carrying the ball 34 back-breaking times for 127 yards and 4 touchdowns. Lezzer, who only threw the ball seven times, all in the first half, completed five of those tosses for another 131 yards and a touchdown. Running back Tyler Stratton contributed an additional 122 yards rushing. Trey Jordan caught three Lezzer passes for 116 yards including a 31 yard score which put the Bison ahead for good.
Clearfield scored on their first four drives and led the game 28-7 at the half. Scoring again on the opening possession of the second half, it was Lezzer and Stratton who ran the ball play after play keeping the Wildcats offense off the field and the game in hand.
Central Mountain’s Von Walker, who rushed for 362 yards a week ago, was held to just 105 yards on the ground, 80 of which came on the Wildcats first play from scrimmage. He would score three plays later to give the ‘Cats a short-lived 7-0 lead. Seniors Blaze Buckwalter and Drew Alexander ran for 51 and 52 yards, respectively, with Buckwalter scoring the other Central Mountain touchdown on a 22 yard sweep.
This night, however, belonged to Bison Christian Lezzer. He kept drives alive with punishing runs and timely pass completions while on offense, and consistently disrupted the Wildcat offense from his linebacker position while on defense. Once again on this night Lezzer was clearly the dominant force behind the Clearfield victory.
Next week Central Mountain (2-3) hits the road again heading to Huntingdon HS while the Bison take on Bellefonte.
