DuBois Beavers fall 47-28 to Slippery Rock in Week 10

In the days leading up to this game, the District 6-9 AAAA rankings had the possibility for major mix-ups to appear after the outcomes of the week 10 games. DuBois was 6-3 in first place ahead of State College, 5-4, and behind the Little Lions was the Mifflin County Huskies with a 4-5 record. With playoff spots on the line, the Beavers headed to Slippery Rock to take on the 9-0 Rockets.
It looked as if DuBois was going to dominate the game after a TD by Junior RB Devin Clark at 9:37 in the first quarter. Senior K Josh Hnat made the extra point to give the Beavers a 7-0 lead but the Rockets answered back.
The Rockets went on to score four unanswered touchdowns to make the score 26-7 as the clocked ticked past the 4 minute mark of the first half. Junior WR Bryson Paulinellie tacked on seven more for the Beavers in the last 46 seconds before the half. Hnat made the extra point only to have the Rockets score another touchdown 22 seconds later before the half. With the first half of action past and the Beavers down 33-14, the DuBois offensive stats were looking pretty good.
Junior QB Gabe French was 14-23 for 254 yards passing. Paulinellie had 5 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. Devin Clark had 13 carries for 30 yards and two catches for two yards a piece.
On an even brighter note, Gabe French is now the 15th DuBois QB to be a part of the Jim Kelly Club. He has also passed Sean Sleigh’s record of 2,048 single season passing yards. CONGRATS GABE!!!
Paulinellie opened second half scoring with a touchdown half way through the third quarter. After Hnat’s extra point the score was 33-21. A few minutes later after a couple of big plays including a fumble recovery to get everything started, the Beavers closed in on the Rockets after Paulinellie’s TD at 5:38 in the third quarter. Another P.A.T from Hnat and DuBois was down by five points heading into the fourth quarter with a tally of 33-28.
The Rockets put up another seven early in the fourth quarter going up 40-28, but the Beavers still had a chance. After an unsuccessful quarter for the Beavers, Slippery Rock put more salt on the wound with 2:26 left in the game to make the final score 47-28.
The Beavers are stilli n first place in the District 6-9 AAAA standings due to State College and Mifflin County both losing their week 10 games. DuBois now has a first round bye and will play the winner of State College vs. Mifflin County. The location of that game has not been released yet but it will be played on 11/15/13 at 7 pm. This bye week is also a chance for the team to rest, but not to lose their physical and mental momentum. Good Luck to the DuBois Beavers as they look to extend their season.
