It was a disappointing start for the the Beavers as they lost 21-17 to Mifflin County Friday night. The DuBois squad had a lot of positive buzz about them leading into this game and had a positive plan of attack.
The entire first quarter was scoreless with both sides making mistakes that could have made this a high scoring game. The scoring started for DuBois with 38 seconds before halftime on a 40 yard punt return for a touchdown by Junior WR-DB Ian Hine. The Beavers headed to the locker room with a 7-0 advantage after a successful PAT by Senior K Josh Hnat.
The Huskies got on the board with 8:01 left in the 3rd quarter but missing the extra-point. DuBois still had a 7-6 boost but that was about to change. Mifflin County recovered a Beaver fumble and returned the ball 74 yards for the TD. The Huskies were then successful on a two point conversion making the score 14-7.
The clocked ticked to 6:00 minutes left in the 3rd as Junior RB Bryson Paulinellie received the kick off which he returned for 86 yards and a Beaver touchdown. Hnat made the extra-point and evened the score to 14 all. Hnat would then again make a mark in the book with a 20-yard field goal that gave his team a 17-14 lead with under 2 minutes to go in the third.
The Huskies still had a bone to pick with the Beavers. Mifflin County made the score 21-17 after a 12 yard TD run with 11:31 left in the game. Both sides traded possessions for most of the 4th quarter running the clock down to 1:24. The Beavers were deep in their own end and planned to drive down for the week 1 win. After a dropped pass on 4th and 2, the game was in the “paws” of the Huskies who won by the final score of 21-17.
DuBois, now 0-1, has a lot to work on in practice this week as they prepare for a district 5 match-up on the road vs. Franklin this Friday.
