DuBois loses in heartbreaker to Slippery Rock 17-15 on Senior Night

Written by: on Monday, November 5th, 2012

It all came down to the last 2 seconds. The Beavers were down by 2 points and were at their own 35 yard line with a lot of ground to cover. Time for a HAIL MARY?!?! The screen pass DuBois decided to go with proved costly.

The scoring started for DuBois with a fumble returned for a touchdown by Junior OL/DL Tyler Fleeger. His 16 yard run made the score 6-0 DuBois. Slippery Rock put up 3 points with a 25 yard field goal halfway through the second quarter.

The game went even more down-hill for the Beavers when Slippery Rock ran the ball 94 yards for the 10-6 touchdown. Senior K Josh Hayes made a 36 yard field goal in the last second before halftime to make it a one-point game.

In the second half, Slippery Rock put even more salt on DuBois’ wound with a 90 yard punt return for the 17-9 score. DuBois’ senior RB Garrett Brown had a different idea for how the game should end. He ran the ball in a few yards for the 17-15 touchdown. DuBois decided to go for the two-point conversion but sadly the Beavers came up short. The Beavers had one more chance to win the game if they managed the clock correctly. In the end it just wasn’t enough.

Slippery Rock won by the final score of 17-15 giving DuBois their only loss of the season. Brown had 20 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore QB Gabe French made 10 out of 19 passes for 132 yards.

This game wasn’t the best way to end the season, but the team stayed together and remained strong no matter what the out-come of the game. Though DuBois’ last regular season game ended in a way they didn’t want the seniors especially, had a lot to be proud of. Looking back on the season that has just ended leaves a fan, player and DAHS student something to remember. An 8-1 record is not a bad way to end a season. Brown also broke a school record for the most rushing yards in a single game. Keep your head up DuBois!!!!

Playoffs are still up in the air and the local teams should know more details by mid-week.
