A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of speaking with a group of coaches from Towson at the Lauren’s first and goal camp. I ask them about their recent movement of recruiting Pennsylvania hard. They told me that previous staffs missed out on some great opportunities. Last year they landed prize linebacker Bryce Lauer from Franklin Regional.
This year to date they’ve offered 11 PA players, one of them was Elizabeth Forward Left Tackle AJ Ackerman. So far their new strategy is paying dividends. Tonight on twitter the 6-6, 290 pound incoming senior announced his intentions to attend Towson.
“I went with Towson because it is such a great staff with a great mindset, guys with a great plan. They have been with me every step of the way through thick and thin and always had my back. “The Towson staff put on a full court press for AJ. “It was a mix of coach Applebaum and coach Ambrose who recruited me.” His mom is ok with his choice: “My mom just wants me to be happy. If I’m happy she is happy”.
Warriors Head Coach Mike Collodi had this to say about what the Tigers can expect. “AJ is big, strong and physical. He is very aggressive and looks to dominate his opponent every play. Very durable and tough, he has started every game since his 9th grade year. Intelligent with a good football IQ. Hard worker who has overcame a lot in his life to be a successful student athlete. Overall, Towson is getting a great kid who will give everything he has on a daily basis to make the team better.”
