For the third consecutive season, the Farrell Steelers are District 10-A Champions; the only difference was this time it wasn’t even close.
“I told my guys that the last two championships were close and we were ready to explode, that was our pregame speech,” said Farrell head coach Jarrett Samuels.
Farrell dominated every phase of the game en-route to a 52-27 route of Cambridge Springs Thursday night. The game was a far cry from the regular season matchup that the Steelers won 20-13.
Speaking of the Steelers scoring only 20 in the first matchup, they scored 25 in the first quarter alone.
Christian Lewis and Jourdan Townsend did the heavy lifting for Farrell. Oh, and their offensive line which helped the Steelers average nearly 13 yards-per-play. Quarterback Isaac Clarke also
tossed a perfect game going 5-for-5 for 91 yards with two touchdowns.
Clarke scored the game’s first touchdown on a 30-yard run.
After recovering a Blue Devils fumble on their first snap of the game; Lewis ran 63 yards for a score.
Following a Lewis interception, Tymir Green scored on a 3-yard run.
Another Cambridge Springs turnover led to Townsend’s 20-yard touchdown from Clarke putting the Steelers in front 25-0 after a quarter.
Farrell had 294 yards in the first quarter.
“With a team as talented as Farrell you can’t get behind early and make the mistakes that we did,” said Cambridge Springs head coach Justin Grubbs. “We weren’t able to adjust fast enough to what they were doing, and they hit us with some big plays.
Clarke and Townsend hooked up for their second touchdown of the game from a yard out capping a 6-play 84-yard drive pushing the lead to 33-0, 45 seconds into the second quarter.
Cambridge Springs was able to temporarily stop the bleeding as Noah Reisenauer scored on an 8-yard run on fourth down.
Lewis immediately answered with a 78-yard touchdown run; Townsend would a 33-yard interception return to put the mercy-rule in at halftime with the score 46-7.
The Blue Devils were able to score touchdowns on three of their four second-half possessions against the Steeler’ junior varsity team.
Chase Schultz scored on runs of 16 & 15 yards, while Carter Babb scored on a 15-yard run.
The Blue Devils managed 213 yards in the second half after gaining just 88 in the first with five turnovers.
They had two 100-yard rushers in Schultz and Noah Reisenauer who rushed for 112 & 120 yards respectively.
“We haven’t been to the District 10 Championship game in 20 years. I’m proud of the team and the way they reacted the last few weeks. We accomplished the goal of getting here, now we have to make sure the next time we’re here we get the job done,” said Grubbs.
Lewis scored Farrell’s second-half touchdown on a 26-yard run.
The Steelers now get ready District 5 Champion Northern Bedford.
“I’m very blessed to be coaching great kids and to have great coaches on the staff; all the credit goes to them,” said Samuels. “We’re going to enjoy this win and then get ready for them on Saturday.
