In a game that was a defensive struggle most of the game, Franklin Regional found its way into the end zone with 1 second remaining in the game. The clock was running and Nate Leopold found the end zone right in time.
The first quarter both teams exchanged punts. Neither team could get anything going. The score was 0-0 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter McKeesport was the first team to score. JJ Harper capped off an 85 yard drive on a 24 yard run to make it 7-0 with 4:19 remaining before half. That would be the score at halftime.
McKeesport held Franklin Regional to under 50 yards of total offense. McKeesport had 211.
In the second half Franklin Regional finally got on the board and tied it up when Adam Rudzinski connected with Hunter Stonecheck for a 40 yard touchdown with 9:33 in the third quarter. That would be the score with 1 quarter remaining, and an exciting ending was likely.
The fourth featured a few turnovers. One of those turnovers turned out very costly for McKeesport. The Tigers fumbled at their own 11 with about a minute left. And then Nate Leopold found the the end zone with 1 second remaining. The XP was no good to make the final score 13-7.
Franklin Regional travels to Kiski next week in a Big East conference matchup. And McKeesport looks to recover from a surprising loss when they travel to Armstrong which was a Double overtime thriller last year!
