Gateway defeats Franklin Regional earns first round home game

Franklin Regional got out to an early 3-0 lead on a Dom DiFalco 30 yard field goal. On the next drive Gateway got inside Franklin Regional territory but a holding penalty stalled the drive. The score at the end of 1 was 3-0.
Gateway got on the board on a blocked punt return by Jordan Stankovich after a blocked extra point the score was 6-3 Gateway.
On the following Gateway drive they got on the board when Brady Walker connected with Courtney Jackson for a 43 yard touchdown making it 13-3.
Gateway looked like it was in control of the game, but a pivotal moment happened right before half. Devon Powell scooped up the ball on a punt return and took it 35 yards to the house. That made the score 13-10 Gateway at half.
Franklin Regional got the ball to start the second half and got inside the Gateway 40, on fourth down they went for it and didn’t convert giving the ball to Gateway at their own 45.
Gateway put together a long clock eating drive and it was capped off with a 26 yard run by Derrick Davis.
Franklin Regional went 3 and out the following drive and punted it away. Gateway put together another big drive and eventually scored when Brady Walker connected with Courtney Jackson on a 16 yard run. That made the score 27-10 Gateway at the end of 3.
Both Gateway and Franklin Regional added a touchdown in the fourth quarter making the final score 33-17 Gateway.
Courtney Jackson had another big night. He had 7 catches for 141 yards. Brady Walker was 13 of 27 for 172 yards. Freshman Derrick Davis had a blocked punt touchdown and also a rushing touchdown.
Next week Gateway will host a first round playoff game against an opponent to be determined. Franklin Regional will be on the road for the first round against an opponent to be determined.
