An in-state school has recently received a declaration from its fifth recruit in the 2013 class.
Jaymar Parrish, a 6’2, 225-pound tight end/linebacker from Gateway High School in the WPIAL, issued a verbal declaration to Pitt Monday, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com.
Though Parrish plays tight end and linebacker for the Gators, he will more than likely play fullback for the Panthers. The Gator senior-to-be held only one other scholarship offer in addition to Pitt, and that came from Akron of the Mid-American Conference.
Parrish finished his junior season with a team-leading 22 receptions for 524 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 23.8 yards per reception. From his linebacker spot, he added 69 tackles, four sacks, one interception, two deflected passes and a forced fumble for the Gators.
Gateway finished 9-3 overall, reaching the WPIAL AAAA semifinals against eventual WPIAL champion and PIAA AAAA semifinalist North Allegheny, before falling to the Tigers, 21-17. Since the start of the 2006 season, the Gators are 56-17 overall (.767) and reached three consecutive WPIAL AAAA championship games from 2007-’09.
