Brady Callahan threw for 240 yards and five touchdowns while Logan Lutz hauled four of those scores and had 173 receiving yards on six catches to lead Grove City to a 48-7 route of Girard Saturday night.
The Eagles certainly didn’t let their bye week have any effect on them as the scored early and often on their way 35-0 halftime lead.
“Always after a bye week you’re worried about starting slow,” said Grove City head coach Sam Mowrey. “I thought the boys played well and we played good football right from the start. They were excited to get back on the field and play a game again.”
Lutz and Callahan connected on three first-half touchdown passes that helped Logan set school records.
Lutz broke his own Eagles record for receptions in a season with 65. His 45-yard pass from Callahan broke the record with 64. He would also add one final catch on the game with his 49-yard touchdown that gave Grove City a 42-0 a minute into the second half. He also broke the school record for receiving yards in a season.

“I’m proud of him, said Mowrey. “But he’d be the first to tell you that he couldn’t do it without his line, quarterback, and everybody else out there. He’s obviously a special player and fun to be around. That is something he has definitely earned.”
Grove City scored on its first seven possessions of the game.
A.J Miller hauled in a 3-yard touchdown from Callahan to open the scoring while Tyler Greer also raced 80 yards of a score sandwiched in between the three Callahan to Lutz touchdowns.
“We wanted to come out and start fast, and impose our will,” said Mowrey. “Our line did a great job of protecting, and Brady (Callahan) made smart decisions, and our receivers made some plays.”
Girard had two chances to crack the scoreboard in the first half but came up empty both times.
After recovering a muffed punt, the Yellowjackets were able to move inside the Eagles 5-yard line but were forced to attempt a field goal. There was a bad snap, however, and kicker Tyler Hawkins was forced to throw a pass that was intercepted by Grove City lineman Nick Smither.

Girard also missed a field goal to close the first half.
Grove City would add a pair of second-half scores on Lutz’s 49-yard reception and Zack Martin’s 1-yard run to take a 48-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
Girard did get on the scoreboard in the final seconds as Cam Feathers scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown with two seconds to play. The Yellowjackets close their season at 5-6.
“When I was interviewed before the game, I told them that we needed eight 10-minute drives. The only way to stop that offense is to make sure they don’t have the football,” said Girard head coach Billy McNally. “When you have 30 kids, they can’t quit, and they didn’t quit. I’m graduating 12 seniors, and they are going to be hard to replace. They were very good at leading and motivating this team.”
For Grove City, it is off to the District 10 3A semifinals where rival Slippery Rock awaits. The Eagles beat the Rockets 33-7 on September 23rd.
“It is a rivalry game, we know Slippery Rock is very well-coached and talented,” said Mowrey. “We’ll get back to work Monday to prepare for them.”
