The Grove City Eagles left no doubt as to who the best team is in District 10 Region 5. The Eagles throttled Sharon 42-9 Friday night at Forker Field to run their record to 7-0 on the season.
“Every Friday is special, these kids put in a lot of work and time to be able to reap the benefits like tonight,” said Grove City head coach Sam Mowery. “I’m just so proud of the boys, they came out and played a great game tonight.”
Grove City outscored Sharon 35-2 in the final three quarters and rolled up 546 yards of total offense.
“Offensively, despite it being in the hurry up we wanted to be physical,” said Mowery. “Over the course of the game I think it started to wear them down.”
Tyler Greer rushed for a game-high 172 on 29 carries and scored two touchdowns. His 4-yarder opened the scoring with five minutes to play in the first quarter.
“This game was a great game and something that the rest of the team and I will never forget,” said Greer. “They’re a great team, but we were just able to come out and play a great game.”
“He’s a 2-year team captain and a special kid,” said Mowery of Greer. “You see what kind of player he is on the field, but he’s just as great a kid off the field.”
Sharon tied the game as the Tigers put a drive together capped by Jordan Wilson’s 2-yard run. Sharon then appeared to have all the momentum as Daiveon Say fumbled the ensuing kickoff with Sharon recovering at the Eagles 34

However, Grove City’s defense came up with a huge stop forcing the Tigers to turn the ball over on downs.
“We talked before the game about how special teams and turnovers were going to play a big factor in this game,” said Mowery. “To be able to make that stop and then go down and score, that was a big momentum swing.”
Say, as to make for his blunder then hauled in the 35-yard touchdown pass from Brady Callahan that gave the Eagles the lead for good.
Greer would score his second touchdown of the night from a yard out with 3:20 to play until halftime as the Grove City took a 21-7 lead into the locker room.
Callahan capped the Eagles opening drive of the second half with a 4-yard touchdown run. He finished the night 15-for-21 with 179 yards passing and accounted for two total touchdowns.
Sharon put up its only points of the second half when Jordan Volpe made a play to get into the backfield and sack Callahan for a Safety.
Grove City closed out the scoring on a 23-yard run by Colby Nelson and a 59-yard run by Logan Lutz.
Nelson ran for 89 yards on 13 carriers, while Lutz ran ten times 99 yards.
Lutz 59-yard run was a highlight reel touchdown for Grove City.

“I couldn’t believe it; we were getting ready to call the next play and kept on going,” Mowery. “That play defines the type of character he has because he never quits.”
Both Grove City and Sharon are back in action next Friday as the Eagles play host to Conneaut while Sharon hosts University Prep out of District 8.
“We had a lot of things that went our way tonight,” said Mowery. “We need to continue to focus and get back to work over the weekend. This game gets us one step to closer to one of the goals we want to accomplish.”
