Key Stats: 4 year starting SR QB Luke Brennan again leads the offense, with a career and school record 3,466 yards passing and 37 touchdown passes;

2017 Offensive Outlook: Looking for a solid season once new starters step in and develop confidence. Will rely on play-off experience and the extra weeks of practice; OL needs to develop and is working hard on the fundamentals of the game; many experienced offensive weapons to spread the ball around in the run and pass game; 4 year starting SR QB Luke Brennan again leads the offense, with a career and school record 3,466 yards passing and 37 touchdown passes; starting full-back Nate Marchand and starting Tight End Hayden Gallagher both return and will be key in both the run and pass game. Skill players return with great speed and experience. Three-year starter Will Gruber and two year starters Mike Filardi and Darren Mitchell return to lead the receiving corps; Simeon McKinley, a 6’1” 205 lb Jr RB will take over for Chuck Carr. Will Gruber and Simeon Mckinley both won state championships as members of Hickory’s 4 X 100 relay team.

2017 Defensive Outlook: Defensively, the Hornets will rely on the seven returning starters to lead the defense, with bookend defensive ends in 6’4’ 230 SR Troy Scurry and 6’ 210 JR Hayden Gallagher, returning linebackers in Nate Marchand and Evan Mcrensky, and starting DBs in Will Gruber, Mike Filardi, and Darren Mitchell. The defense will be lead and coordinated by six year NFL veteran, Brandian Ross;

2017 Special Teams Outlook: Outstanding Kicker Sam Scarton will help lead the Special Teams units and the Hornets will rely on and utilize its team speed in both the return and coverage units.
