Loss of Tutino motivates @LVRamsFootball to win over @UHS_Lions

In every football season, a team will have to overcome injuries and adversity at some point. The Ligonier Valley Rams faced that situation on Friday night against the United Lions as Aaron Tutino left the game in the first quarter with an injury and wouldn’t return. To that point, Tutino had scored the Rams first touchdown on a 19 yard pass from John Caldwell and accounted for 23 yards rushing and 37 receiving.
It took the Rams a little while to adjust to life without their all state receiver. But once they did, they were able to put points on the board and pull away from United. Sam Sheeder became
the main receiver for the Rams and pulled in two scores in the second quarter on 24 and 64 yards scoring plays. Cage Dowden added a 15 yard touchdown reception from Caldwell and the Rams led 26-0 at halftime. After the break, United took the kickoff and drove the ball the length of the field for their only touchdown of the night on a 3 yard run by Kyle Silk. Silk also converted the PAT kick and it was 26-7 midway through the 3rd quarter.
Enter Kyrie Miller who took off down the LV sideline for a 50 yard touchdown run followed by another 7 yard rushing score and it was 40-7 LV after 3 periods. The Rams largely stuck to the run game in the second half and Ayden Kelley finished the scoring with a 5 yard touchdown run.
The Rams defense played well most of the night, containing Silk and Hunter Cameron for most of the evening. Just like last week, the defensive line of the Rams played very well, particularly against the pass. Mike Petrof, Wylie Spiker, Christian Jablonski and Blake Bridge harassed Silk all night. As a result, the Lions were only able to muster 5 yards of passing offense. They made Silk throw quickly with pressure and knocked down a number of passes in the Lions backfield.
Leading the offense for the Rams statistically were Sam Sheeder with 5 catches for 121 yards and two scores plus another 49 yards rushing on 8 carries. Kyrie Miller ended the night with
145 yards on the ground with 2 touchdowns. Caldwell’s final passing line was 17 for 26 for 249 yards and 4 scores.
The Rams look at continue their winning streak with a return home to face Saltsburg at 7 PM on Friday at Weller Field. United will try to get back on track as they travel to Penns Manor to take on the Comets also at 7 PM.
