Neshannock defeats Freedom in an aggressive second half

The game between the Freedom Bulldogs and the Neshannock Lancers was full of injuries and penalties leading to challenges for both teams. The Lancers would end up with the victory over the Bulldogs 35-6 in a high-scoring second half.
In the Bulldogs opening drive, running back Kyle Borgman was injured in a pass attempt for the end zone. This left Freedom without their starting running back for the whole game.
After multiple unsuccessful drives, the Lancers were the first team to put points on the board. Chris Maize received a pass from Seth Fehrs and ran all the way to the end zone for a 58-yard touchdown. The score was 7-0 Neshannock after the extra point was made.
On the following drive, the Bulldogs answered back with a touchdown of their own. On Neshannock’s one-yard line, Cody Ross ran into a group of players but powered through into the end zone for a Freedom touchdown. The extra point was no good leaving the Bulldogs down by one point with a score of 7-6 for the first half.
The second half started with a kickoff from Freedom to have Neshannock get possession first in the second half. The Lancers would get to Freedom’s 40-yard line. On the next play, Neshannock would score another touchdown. Fehrs faked a handoff and ran down the field until reaching the end zone giving him a 40-yard rushing touchdown. After the made extra point. The Lancers would have a lead over the Bulldogs 14-6.
After another unsuccessful drive from Freedom, Neshannock get possession of the ball again. Neshannock was able to find their way back into the end zone as Joey Nerti had a three-yard rush for a Lancer touchdown. The extra point following the touchdown was good making the score 21-6.
On Freedom’s next drive, Zach Rosa rushed out of the pocket and was tackled by the sidelines. He was injured on that run causing Freedom to lose their starting quarterback which led to Cole Beck filling in.
Freedom’s drive added no points to their board causing Neshannock to take over on downs. The Lancers got into the end zone for the fourth Lancers touchdown of the night. Fehrs rushed into the end zone for a seven-yard rushing. This added to the Lancers lead with the score of 28-6 after the made extra point.
The Bulldogs faced another fourth down and this time they punted it. To receive it for the Lancers was Nerti and he returned it all the way back into the end zone for a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown.
As the last couple minutes wound down, the two teams became very physical causing multiple penalties to be called. Freedom had 50-yards in penalty yards and Neshannock had 68-yards penalty yards.
The game came to an end and Neshannock would leave with a win over the Bulldogs. Both teams are in action next Friday as Freedom will host Cardinal Whirl North Catholic and Neshannock will be traveling to Mohawk.
