North Allegheny rolled to 27-unanswered second-half points to complete a perfect regular season an win an outright conference title.
“It is just an unbelievable effort by all our kids, and coaching staff said North Allegheny head coach Art Walker. “From January until now the guys have put in a ton of hours. The kids are dedicated and believe in one another. It’s very rewarding for them, and I’m excited for everybody in our district and community.”
The Tigers were forced to rally from a 7-0 halftime deficit.
Sam Gelosh scored on a 12-yard run that capped a 15-play, 74-yard drive that ate up six minutes at tied the game at seven.

Including Gelosh’s touchdown, North Allegheny scored on four of its five second-half possessions.
“I have to tip my hat to my players and coaches,” said Walker. “When you have a bunch of coaches that are so dedicated and have coordinators that are obsessed with figuring stuff out. That makes my job very easy, I appreciate everything they do, and I want my players who play for me to appreciate them as well.”
The Tigers took the lead as quarterback Ben Petsche scored from eights yards out.
Following a Rams punt, Ben Maenza ripped off the game-clinching 69-yard touchdown run that put North Allegheny in front 20-7. Maenza led all rushers with 141 yards on just nine carries.
Petsche would score his second touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run with forty seconds to go to close the scoring.
“It hurts, and it is a humbling experience,” said Pine-Richland head coach Eric Kasperowicz. “It is never fun to lose. The conference title was something that was very important to us. In the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter. We want to get to Heinz Field. We need to remember this feeling. We have a week off to get completely healthy, and in two weeks we play for the chance to go to Heinz field.”
Pine-Richland would take a 7-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter as quarterback Cole Spencer scored on a 1-yard run.

From there the Tiger defense put the clamps down on the Rams as they gain 174 yards for the game. North Allegheny ground out 358 yards of offense.
“We had our chances, in the third quarter we drove inside the 20-yard line and couldn’t put in. The next drive we got a big turnover, but our receiver dropped the pass on 4th-down,” said Kasperowicz. “If we go up 14-0 then it’s a different game.”
With the win, North Allegheny improves to 10-0 on the season, while Pine-Richland falls to 8-2. Both will enter the WPIAL 6A Playoffs next week.
“There’s a good chance we could see them again,” said Walker. “There is a lot of respect on both sides for each other. We’ll look at the film and change a few things we didn’t do well and expect the same from them. Both coaching staffs work extremely hard.”
Luke Meckler led Pine-Richland with 114 yards rushing on 28 attempts.
