2018 Offensive Outlook: Offensively, we return a lot of experience up front. Three starting offensive linemen and our tight end will be key to developing our run game. Many of our skill position players will be sophomores, so these veterans will be counted on to bring them along. Sophomores like Dalton Smith, Cadin Ebersole, and Brady Clark ran the ball last year and showed their big play capabilities. They are fast and physical players that work hard. Caleb Diehl also saw some time offensively and defensively. As freshmen, these guys saw time in playoff games, so they are coming in with some valuable experience. At quarterback things are a bit unsettled. Senior Case Donaldson is an athlete that can make things happen with his legs, so this would be a big weapon for him if he is behind center. Sophomore Thad Leidy also saw some time last year. He is a smart player and has a nice arm for a young guy.
2018 Defensive Outlook: Defensively, we will count on our linebackers and their experience early on. Three of the four return to what was an outstanding defense last year. One of the big questions is the defensive line. Last year’s line was one of the best to wear the black and white. Kyle Guyer returns, but the departure of his cousin Tristin is a big loss. Luke Welsh, Steve Kline, Dakota Claar, and a myriad of young guys will compete for time up front. Brady Clark has a chance to be a special player defensively. He has a skill set that allows him to be used in a variety of ways. There will be a lot of young guys on defense, but with veterans like Alex Fouse, Colby Imler, and Kyle Guyer leading the way the development process could happen quickly.
2018 Special Teams Outlook: Case Donaldson can do a lot of things. He punts, he can kick, he is a great returner. We’ll count on him to be a leader on special teams. We have a lot of team speed and that could play a big role for the special teams units.
This will be a terrific year in the ICC. The teams are very balanced and a lot of teams return a lot of players. Expect big leaps from teams like Moshannon Valley, Glendale, and West Branch who could find themselves as top 5 teams by the end of the year. They are dangerous teams that return a whole lot of experience.
