Quips come back to beat Beaver, advance to Heinz

On one of the coldest nights on record since 1973, conference rivals Beaver and Aliquippa would meet in the district 7 semifinals. At stake, a trip to the district finals next week, held at Heinz Field.

After 20 minutes of the contest, we were scoreless. Both offenses struggling to move the ball beyond the opponent 30 yard line.

In the 2nd quarter, Beaver would make the first fatal error of the evening when Brodie List’s pass was intercepted by Aliquippa safety Kwantel Raines at the Aliquippa 48 yard line and returned the interception to the Beaver 24. Two plays later, the Quips made the Bobcats pay as RB Tariq Jones would score from 3 yards out, making the score 6-0 Aliquippa. The score would remain the same into halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Beaver would block a punt inside the Aliquippa 15 yard line, setting up the Bobcats inside the redzone. Aliquippa’s defense would live up to their season long statistics and force Beaver to a field goal after going 3 and out inside the Aliquippa 5 yard line. Beaver placekicker Connelly would push the field goal attempt wide right. Keeping the score at 6-0.

Beaver however would strike in the 3rd quarter when QB Brodie List would connect with WR Harrison Pontoli from 28 yards out for a Bobcat touchdown.  Beaver was then on top 7-6 with 10:41 remaining in the 3rd

Aliquippa would fail on a 4&6 inside the Beaver 20 with less than 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, giving the Bobcats the football back. On the first play of the ensuing series, Aliquippa would strip the ball from Beaver RB Te’Vonn Williams, setting the Quips with a 1st & 10 at the Bobcat 23 yard line. On the next play, Aliquippa RB Xavier Harvey would go untouched, 23 yards for the Aliquippa touchdown. A 2-point conversion would make the score, 14-7 Aliquippa with 4:51 remaining in the game.

Beaver would have one more attempt to tie the game when Brodie List would have his final pass of the season intercepted by Kwantel Raines, sealing the 10th consecutive trip to Heinz Field for the Quips of Aliquippa.

Aliquippa will meet the Quakers of Quaker Valley for the 2nd time this season next Saturday. This time, it’s for the Class ‘AAA’ District 7 Title and a spot in the PIAA State Playoff.
