The Richland Rams  did something nobody has done to the Marauders since 2012, they invoked the mercy rule on them. The Rams were efficient on both sides of the ball, outgaining BG with over 400 yards of offense while holding them to under 100 for the entire game. Joe Hauser threw for over 190 yards going 15 of 30 with three touchdowns.  Caleb Burke was on the receiving end of 6 of those for 71 yards and lineman Collin Instone earned the WPA Player of the Game dominating both sides of the ball, but it was his 38 yard fumble return in the third quarter that sealed the honor. “He’s just a big kid, strong, athletic and smart” said asst coach Eber Verhovsek.

Richland opened the game with a 12 play, 62 yard scoring drive that ended on a Joe Hauser to Koby Bailey 3 yard td pass. at 8:15. Dylan Dininny,  Colin Instone and the rest of the Rams line set the tone of the night on the first two series, plowing the way on offense, then slamming the door shut on defense forcing the first of 7 BG punts from Homecoming King Kolton McGee. The WVU bound senior averaged nearly 43 yards on the night, including 2 for over 50.

The second score came at the 2:40 mark in the first when Hauser found Kellen Stahl in the corner for a 6 yard td pass. “It’s great having a line like that” said Hauser. “They make my job easy.” It wasn’t until late in the second that Richland would find the scoreboard again, this Hauser’s third td pass, a 10 yard toss to Joe Kovachick. Richland went for two and converted making it a comfortable 22 point lead going into halftime.

We have some kids that are really hungry and we came out and dominated in all phases of the game” said Rams Head Coach Brandon Bailey. “Our line has just been doing great both ways. They open the holes and really do a great job in pass protection.” After being forced to punt on their first series of the second half, BG lost the handle on the ball and Instone scooped the ball on the run and went straight to the endzone. The teams then traded interceptions but it was the Rams who benefited most on the second, getting the ball at the 10 after Jordan Kocsis returned an interception 35 yards to the BG 10. Zack Vogelsberger followed his line to the endzone several plays later. Trevor Tustin finished the scoring on a 13 yard td run.

Forty Five was the most points scored against the Marauders since 2011 when Forest Hills scored 49. Richland hosts 5-2 Bedford next week and the Marauders will try to rebound at Forest Hills.
