In a hard-hitting physical defensive slugfest in the District 10 North/South All-Star Game, the South squeaked out a slim 7-0 victory at Greenville High School High School Friday night.

Grove City’s Trey Adams scored on a 3-yard touchdown run on a 4th-and-goal play with 3:08 to play in the third quarter that capped off an 8-play 50-play drive. Sharpsville’s Bobby Besser ripped off a 33-yard gain for the drive’s highlighted play.

Besser, who won the South’s MVP, had an outstanding game as he rushed for a game-high 147 yards on 27 carries.

That short field was set up as the North squad attempted a 4th-and-2 gamble at their 49-yard line. Matt Lupo was stopped 1-yard short at midfield.

The Cathedral Prep product, however, had a big game as well as he put up 106 total yards of offense (55) rushing, and (51) receiving. He easily won the North’s MVP.

A sloppy first-half saw the teams combine for four turnovers, six in all and left the game scoreless at intermission.

The North Allstars twice had chances to break the deadlock in the first half.

First, midway through the second frame, the North made their first big play of the game as General McLane’s Jack Parker connected with McDowell’s Nate Davison for a 36-yard completion to the South’s 14-yard line. Four plays later they forced to attempt a 29-yard field goal, but the kick was missed wide-right by Anthony Lupo.

Threatening again near the latter part of the half – the North had moved 34 yards in seven plays from the South’s 42-yard line to their eight. But Meadville star and Slippery Rock University recruit Isaiah Manning rocked Parker for a sack of nine yards and with no timeouts for the North that all but ended the half.

As the pads started popping and the hits heated up in the second-half, it was South that was able to push through for the victory as they outrushed the North 132-54 for game with Besser gaining 101 of his yards in the final two quarters with his 41-yarder that all but sealed the win with under a minute remaining.

The South Allstars held a 204- 172 advantage in total offense for the game.
