Big School Team # 10 Montour (7) 0-0

Written by: on Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012

There’s no Dillon Buechel or Julian Durden to carve up opposing defenses this season for the Spartans, but the defending WPIAL AAA champions still do have some punch.

Head coach Lou Cerro, who has helped giide the Spartans to three 12-win seasons since 2007 and turned the program into an annual playoff contender, has a sizeable offensive line, fronted by a pair of Temple recruits in Matt Barone and Tyler Haddock. Barone was a starter on last year’s line which averaged better than 265 pounds per man.

Also back in the mix is wide receiver Devin Wilson, who figures to be both a rushing and receiving threat for Montour. Defensively, Wilson, Haddock, Cole Macek, Kevin Klemmer and Nick Arnold all return, so the Spartans have some experience on that side of the ball. Tynen Greer, a dual-threat quarterback who amassed more than 650 yards of offense in his junior season at Shenango, a school located near New Castle, transferred to Montour in the offseason.

no respect for the champs. the defense is solid, just as solid as last year. the line in among the most athletic in the wpial, with a one two punch at running back that’ll prove to be big. sure, no buechel or durden, but that system is gone and the new one will push this scrappy team to a repeat
