Team #4 South Fayette (7)

Written by: on Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Had it not been for some ill-timed mistakes in the fourth quarter of the WPIAL quarterfinals, South Fayette probably could have wound up at Heinz Field playing for the AA championship. Instead, Aliquippa wound up winning a 47-34 thriller. The Lions romped to a 10-1 record last season, averaging more than 33 points per game, and many of the cast of players from that team return for another go-round and possible run to Heinz. QB Christian Brumbaugh (2,183 passing yards, 29 TD); RB Jeff Davis (1,209 rush yds., 304 rec. yds., 21 total TD); WR/DB Tyler Challingsworth (23 rec., 445 yds., 5 TD; 55 tackles, 1 sack, 4 INT); WR/LB Eric Myers (21 rec., 300 yds., 4 TD; 86 tackles, 2 sacks); WR/DB Josh Patterson (14 rec., 176 yds., 2 TD); TE/LB Tanner Courtad (56 tackles, 3 sacks); OL/DE Luke Mortensen (2 sacks); OL/DE Nolan Spicer (46 tackles, 5 sacks) and OL/DL Nick Faraci (50 tackles, 5 sacks) all return. That’s quite a list of experience. The Lions compete in the Century Conference, home to tough teams like Keystone Oaks, Steel Valley, Seton-LaSalle and newcomer Washington.
