The Tigers enter the 2011 season with the title of defending District 10 AA champions, but there’s some notable athletes which were lost to graduation, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Leading tackler Justin Yuran (190 tackles, 14.6 tackles/game) is gone, as are Steven Bittler, Vandell Spicer, Ian Crawford, Craig Ballew, Jalen Jackson, Marion Lampkins, Travis Coonce and Demond Davis-White.
The Sharon defense allowed an average of 12.1 points per game, holding 10 of 14 opponents to 14 points or less. In its run to the D10 championship (the 10th district title in school history), the Tigers outscored Girard, four-time defending D10 AA champion Wilmington and Hickory by a combined 56-20, allowing 6.7 points per game in that three-game span. Linebacker Joe Tomko returns after a 90-tackle, two-sack junior season, and figures to be the defensive centerpiece.
Offensively, the Tigers lost the services of Marc Martell (1,566 rush yds, 18 TD), but dual-threat quarterback Jason Ondic (122 rush, 865 yds; 43-of-86, 531 yds; 13 total TD), Jesse Rodgers (79, 748, 5) and Donte Bagnell (38, 210, 5) return from a Tigers’ offensive unit which averaged 251 rushing yards and 27.9 points per game last season.
