Clairton, PA – –

Ray Braszo and the West Mifflin Titans entered into the final week of the season to do battle with Big 9 conference foe, The Thomas Jefferson Jaguars. West Mifflin entered the contest after being defeated last week at home 35-7 to Belle Vernon. Much of the same result would occur Friday night for the Titans.

Thomas Jefferson would take the opening drive 56 yards in 8 plays ending in a Justin Vigna 4 yard touchdown with 9:02 left in the 1st quarter. The ensuing series would see West Mifflin go 3 & out. A botched punt snap would be recovered by Thomas Jefferson at the West Mifflin 7 yard line. 3 plays later, Justin Vigna would add his second touchdown from 7 yards out, placing Thomas Jefferson ahead 14-0 only 8 minutes into the 1st quarter.

The Jaguars would continue to put points on the scoreboard. A 25 yard field goal by AJ Meshanko extended the lead to 17-0 with 11:05 remaining in the 2nd. Justin Vigna would add his 3rd touchdown of the night at the 3:44 mark of the 2nd quarter from 7 yards pushing the score to 24-0. Shane Stump would connect on a 16 yard touchdown pass to Daneil Deabner with less than a minute left in the first half to put the Jaguars up 31-0 at the half.

The second half would see Thomas Jefferson score on their opening series. 54 yards in 7 plays ending in another touchdown, this time from QB Shane Stump to wideout Garret Fairman from 29 yards out to extend the lead to 31-0.

West Mifflin would snap the shutout late in the contest on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Dontae Braxton to Jaimere Loften.

Jaguars Justin Vigna had 112 yards rushing on the night with 3 touchdowns.

Bill Cherpak’s Jaguars sure look as if they’ve shaken off the rust from their loss to Belle Vernon earlier in the season and should be a 3rd seed in the District 7 AAAA playoff. Thomas Jefferson finishes the regular season at 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the Big 9 conference.

West Mifflin finishes the regular season with a 5-4 overall record and 4-4 in the Big 9 conference.

The final here tonight, Thomas Jefferson Jaguars 37, West Mifflin Titans 7
