TJ Wins Season Opener After “Ruffing” up Woodson

JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa- Well, back to the story about the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars…..where were we? Oh thats right, the start of a new season filled with quite a bit of doubt for Bill Chirpak’s Jaguars, at least there WAS doubt. After losing a lot of key guys after their second straight state title, many had felt that the high-flying Jaguars that ran away with Class-AAA last season, might have dropped a few thousand feet closer to earth.
After 38-0 TJ win was put into the books Friday night, that seems like it would be a stretch of anyones imagination…most of all the imagination of H.D. Woodson.
The Jaguars picked up the 2009 season like they set down the 2008 season, with strong play on both sides of the ball. After forcing Woodson to punt and stall the drive that did have some things going for them, TJ went to work on its first scoring drive of the season. The drive milked much of the 1st quarter for 4:56, that was capped off by a Ryan Ruffing touchdown his first of three in the first half alone.
A scary note about the Jaguars defense after their week one shutout, they look better then last year. With the secondary making sure Warriors quarterback Ricardo Young had no room to run or pass, not to mention forcing the Virginia Tech recruit to throw 3 interceptions in the first half.
TJ, lead 24-0 at halftime and ran away from the Warriors in the second half winning 38-0. The Jags will head into WPIAL regular season play having not lost to a district 7 foe since 11/19/2006. Thomas Jefferson has made the WPIAL semi-finals the last 11 seasons and Bill Chirpak is the only coach with three state titles in the district 7, this seems like it could be another great year to live in Pleasant Hills.
