Two games were postponed Friday, and several others saw delays due to lightning in the area. The North East Grapepickers traveled to Edinboro, Friday, to take on General McLane, in a game sure to have playoff implications down the road. This game, however, was suspended in the 2nd quarter, with North East ahead 7-0. The game picked back up Saturday night, and the Lancers quickly tied things up, on QB Josh Ponsoll’s 11 yard scramble. On the next drive, North East’s Max Knight hauled in a 55 yard TD reception to put the ‘Pickers back up 14-7. But McLane answered right back, with a 25 yard TD run by Matt Astorino. Then, with time running down in the 1st half, North East RB Alex Svetz gave his team a 21-14 halftime lead, plowing it in from 2 yards out. Astorino hauled in a 66 yard TD reception in the 3rd, tying the game again, but TD’s from Svetz and Knight led North East to a 35-21 victory. Last season, McLane beat North East by a 21-14 tally, and went on to win the Region 4 title, with North East finishing 2nd.
