West Allegheny’s talented, multi-faceted athlete Mike Caputo is up to four offers from Division-1 football programs, according to

Caputo, who was named the Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Player of the Year last season, has received offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, and Purdue, according to the site.  Rivals also lists West Virginia as a school showing interest without extending an offer.

Rivals’ database lists Caputo as a safety, but the description of “athlete” suits #7 the best.

Last season, Caputo ran for more than 2,500 yards and scored 34 rushing touchdowns.  He also scored three touchdowns as a receiver, led West Allegheny’s defensive unit in tackles, and was a big weapon on kickoff and punt returns.

Caputo, who transfered from Blackhawk, played a major role in West Allegheny’s fifth WPIAL football championship victory since 1997.  West A., it should be noted, is 5-0 all-time in WPIAL championship games.

The Indians finished the 2009 season with a 12-3 overall record, scoring a school record 490 points.
